Python Automation Developer – Miller Maxwell is working with a leading electronic trading organisation.
The client builds almost all its own technology rather than relying on third-party platforms, and that philosophy extends fully into infrastructure.
The estate is predominantly physical servers, with a small amount of virtualisation, running Linux throughout and Windows on desktops and select servers.
You'd join a small, close-knit engineering group and take ownership of an internally built provisioning platform, with a broad mandate to extend automation across the wider stack.
- Own and evolve an internally developed Python-based system for building and managing Linux servers.
- Introduce a modern secrets-management layer (Vault-compatible tooling) to replace manual credential handling.
- Speed up patching and lifecycle management across the Linux fleet.
- Move network and firewall configuration into version control, with changes shipped through peer-reviewed pull requests.
- Improve how internal applications are built, tested and released.
- Build a repeatable, hardened setup process for Windows desktops and a handful of Windows servers.
- Bring a small cloud footprint (productivity suite + a major public cloud provider) under the same automated, code-driven management as everything else.
- Improve alerting and monitoring so faults are caught before they cause impact.
- Pair with, and review work from, other engineers on the team.
The skills required for the Python Automation Developer
- A degree in a STEM related subject.
- 5 + years commercial experience.
- Financial experience is not required; however, Python Automation Developers with this experience will be considered.
- Excellent commercial Python experience - this is the primary language used across the automation estate.
- Familiarity with provisioning physical servers directly, along with experience in virtualised environments.
- Comfort managing infrastructure as code.
- Monitoring/observability tooling experience.
- Windows automation or Active Directory experience is useful but not required.
- Comfortable using AI tools responsibly to speed up engineering work.
