Miller Maxwell is retained by one of the most technically sophisticated high-frequency trading firms in the market. This is a rare opportunity to work where microseconds matter — building the systems that sit at the heart of live trading operations.
You'll join a high-calibre markets engineering team embedded directly alongside traders and quants, building and optimising the low-latency infrastructure that powers multiple trading desks. This is genuine systems engineering — not maintaining legacy code, but architecting solutions where performance is the product.
With significant programmes of work planned across Q3 and Q4, you'll have immediate ownership of meaningful problems: reducing latency, hardening platform stability, and delivering tooling that traders actually rely on. The environment is collaborative, fast-paced, and technically uncompromising.
What you will be focused on:
- Designing, building, and optimising low-latency trading systems in C++ across multiple desks
- Identifying and eliminating performance bottlenecks — from application logic through to kernel and network layers
- Collaborating with traders and quants to translate strategy requirements into robust, production-ready software
- Contributing to platform architecture discussions and taking end-to-end ownership of key engineering initiatives
- Rigorous testing, profiling, and debugging across complex distributed systems
- Defining and refining development estimates as part of an agile delivery team
Skills required:
- 5+ years of C++ development experience in a performance-sensitive environment
- Demonstrable experience in HFT or ultra-low-latency systems development
- Strong understanding of capital markets structure and trading lifecycle
- Solid Linux fundamentals — comfortable at the command line and in production environments
- SQL proficiency and strong debugging and problem-solving instincts
HIGHLY DESIRABLE:
- Exposure to options trading systems or derivatives infrastructure
- Quantitative background — mathematics, statistics, or a related discipline
- Secondary language experience: Python, Java, or C
- An interest or experience within crypto trading
- A STEM related degree
- Agile delivery experience in a fast-moving engineering team
