A leading electronic trading firm is expanding its core infrastructure group and seeking a

Senior Linux Systems Engineer to design, optimise, and operate the ultra‑low‑latency platforms that power its global trading systems.

This role sits at the heart of the firm’s technology stack, where engineering discipline, performance tuning, and reliability directly influence trading outcomes.

  • Role
  • Architect, deploy, and maintain high‑performance Linux systems across globally distributed data centres.
  • Engineer platforms optimised for microsecond‑level latency , deterministic performance, and predictable behaviour under load.
  • Deep‑dive into kernel internals , NUMA layouts, CPU pinning, IRQ balancing, hugepages, and network stack tuning.
  • Build and refine automation for provisioning, configuration, and fleet management using

Ansible, Python, and Bash .

  • Partner with network engineering to optimise

L2/L3 paths , multicast, routing, and ultra‑low‑latency connectivity between trading venues.

  • Work closely with developers and quantitative teams to ensure systems are tuned for high‑frequency workloads , market data ingestion, and real‑time order flow.
  • Own monitoring, observability, and incident response for mission‑critical systems where seconds matter and microseconds count .
  • Lead root‑cause analysis for complex performance issues across hardware, OS, network, and application layers.
  • Contribute to long‑term platform strategy: hardware refresh cycles, kernel upgrades, OS hardening, and next‑generation compute design.

Experience

  • Strong understanding of kernel tuning , scheduling, memory management, and network stack behaviour.
  • Hands‑on experience with low‑latency optimisation , including BIOS tuning, CPU isolation, and hardware‑level performance controls.

• Solid scripting ability

  • Python ,
  • Bash , and experience with

Ansible or similar automation frameworks.

  • Familiarity with

CI/CD pipelines , version control, and automated deployment workflows.

  • Experience with high‑throughput messaging , market data systems, or distributed real‑time platforms (Solace, Kafka, Aeron, or similar).
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across hardware, OS, and network layers.
  • Ability to operate calmly and decisively in high‑pressure, time‑sensitive environments.
  • A mindset focused on engineering rigour, reliability, and measurable performance gains .

You’ll be part of the engineering team that keeps the trading platform fast, stable, and competitive.

Every optimisation you deliver — from kernel parameters to network paths — has a direct impact on execution quality and trading performance.

This is a role for engineers who thrive on precision, ownership, and solving hard problems at scale.
