Platform Automation Engineer β Python Β· Linux Β· Infrastructure as Code Β· London. Miller Maxwell is working with one of London's leading high-frequency trading firms β a business that builds virtually all of its own technology in-house rather than relying on third-party platforms. That same philosophy runs straight through into infrastructure.
The estate is predominantly bare-metal Linux servers, with selective virtualisation and Windows across desktops and a handful of servers. There is an internally built provisioning platform already in place, a small cloud footprint, and a broad mandate to bring the whole stack under modern, code-driven management. This is not a role where you inherit someone else's Terraform modules and tweak variables β you will be shaping how the firm thinks about and operates its
infrastructure for years to come.
Significant programmes of work are planned across 2026 and 2027. If you want genuine ownership and long-term scope, it is here.
What the Platform Automation Engineer will be doing:
- Own and evolve an internally built Python provisioning platform for Linux server management
- Introduce modern secrets management β replacing manual credential handling with Vault-compatible tooling
- Bring network and firewall configuration into version control, shipped via peer-reviewed pull requests
- Build a repeatable, hardened setup process for Windows desktops and select servers
- Improve application build, test, and release pipelines
- Pull a small cloud footprint under the same code-driven management as the rest of the estate
- Sharpen alerting and monitoring so faults are caught before they cause impact
What the Platform Automation Engineer will need:
- 5+ years of strong commercial Python β the primary language across the entire automation estate
- Hands-on Linux administration and infrastructure automation at scale
- Direct experience provisioning physical servers, not just virtualised environments
- Infrastructure as code mindset β config, networking, and builds treated as versioned, reviewable software
- STEM degree or equivalent
Financial services experience is not required, though a similarly demanding, high-stakes environment is a strong advantage.
What is on offer
- Competitive base salary with a highly competitive discretionary bonus
- Private medical insurance and life assurance
- Pension contribution
- 25 days annual leave
- Gym allowance and wellness package
- A technically deep team where your work has direct, visible impact from day one
- 4 days in the office is required.
Miller Maxwell would like to hear from Python engineers, Software Engineers, DevOps Engineers or Linux Engineers who are serious about infrastructure automation and want to own something meaningful, not maintain someone else's playbook.
