Are you a passionate, visionary leader who believes that education is about more than results? Do you want to champion wellbeing, personal development and future pathways, ensuring every young person leaves school confident, resilient and ready for the world ahead?

We are seeking an exceptional Assistant Headteacher to lead Personal Development, Wellbeing and Careers at the heart of our school. This is a senior leadership role for someone ready to make a lasting impact on students, staff and the wider community.

If you’re ready to make a genuine, lasting difference, we would love to hear from you.

About the Role

Reporting directly to the Headteacher, you will be a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, shaping school culture and driving excellence across PSHE, wellbeing and careers education. You will design, lead and embed a high-quality personal development offer that meets the diverse needs of our students and prepares them for life beyond school.

You will combine strategic vision with hands‑on leadership – inspiring staff, analysing impact, strengthening safeguarding practice and ensuring our provision is ambitious, inclusive and future‑focused.

As Assistant Headteacher for Personal Development, Wellbeing and Careers, you will:

  • Lead and innovate our whole‑school approach to personal development, wellbeing and careers education
  • Embed careers and personal development across the curriculum, ensuring relevance, progression and aspiration for all learners
  • Champion high‑quality teaching and learning, supporting staff through coaching, CPD, lesson observations and learning walks
  • Use data intelligently, working with the Deputy Headteacher to track progress, evaluate impact and report effectively to governors
  • Serve as Designated Safeguarding Officer, ensuring safeguarding is robust, proactive and embedded in daily practice
  • Shape policy and practice, ensuring compliance with statutory guidance and best practice in PSHE/RSE, wellbeing and careers
  • Lead social and emotional development, supporting SEND processes, EHCPs and personalised pathways for students
  • Strengthen partnerships with parents, carers, external agencies, employers and the wider community
  • Inspire and develop staff, modelling high expectations, collaboration and a strong commitment to professional growth

Strategic Leadership

You will work closely with the Headteacher and SLT to:

  • Drive the school’s vision, values and improvement priorities
  • Lead and evaluate key areas of the school improvement plan
  • Support performance management, staff deployment and succession planning
  • Ensure resources are used effectively to maximise impact and value for money
  • Represent the school confidently to governors, inspectors and external partners

Who We’re Looking For

You are:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • At least 5 years teaching experience
  • A values‑driven leader with a strong moral purpose
  • Passionate about student wellbeing, inclusion and aspiration
  • An excellent communicator who can motivate, challenge and inspire
  • Confident using data to inform strategy and improvement
  • Committed to safeguarding, equality and high professional standards
  • Ready to play a pivotal role in shaping school culture and outcomes
