About the role

We are also creating a better working environment for our people. We are looking to recruit an Accountant (Maternity Cover) to join our Finance team based in our Scotland East Region.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Operating and maintaining the day-to-day financial accounting requirements and queries for Miller Homes Scotland.
  • Assisting in the preparation of the monthly management accounts and reports for submission to Group within agreed deadlines.

Key Functional Areas

Daily Tasks

  • Responsible for ongoing accounting processes to ensure revenues, costs, and overheads are correctly recorded in JDE and Anaplan.
  • Raise TT requests – ensure correct approvals and back-up in place prior to forwarding to Cashiers.
  • Process Scotland employee expense claims - ensure accuracy, match receipts, and correct coding.
  • Raise JDE accounts receivable invoices and manage accounts receivable ledger.
  • Respond to ad hoc queries from both Scotland Team and other Miller Divisions – e.g., prepare spend analysis, set up new sites, provide back-up to journal entries.

Month End Accounting

  • Responsible for ensuring that all Group month-end reporting requirements are met and correctly documented within Group reporting deadlines including:
  • Running month-end JDE reconciliation reports.
  • Reviewing plot legal completion statements and liaising with sales & external solicitors on any issues.
  • Preparing monthly journals for vehicle recharges, wages & salaries, prepayments & accruals, intercompany recharges, and JV company completions & recharges.
  • Updating monthly revenues in Anaplan and issuing reports to sales & commercial teams.
  • Completing monthly VAT return for Scotland and Joint Venture companies.
  • Preparing month-end file for review.
  • Updating YTD analysis for Tax Pack, Vehicle Costs, and Salaries.
  • Preparing monthly Home to Base travel analysis for submission to payroll.
  • Updating Group month-end checklist and saving reports.

Other

  • Provide support to finance manager during year-end audit and annual internal audit processes.
  • Prepare annual PSA/P11d return for payroll.
  • Prepare and process monthly journal in JDE for Walker Timber management accounts and update the forecast in Anaplan quarterly.

Key Capabilities Required Skills, Capabilities, and Attributes

  • Proven experience as management accountant or similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of financial management principles and practices.
  • Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines.

Knowledge, Experience, and Qualification

  • Part / Newly Qualified Accountant.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Packages, specifically MS Excel.
  • Experience of using JDE and Anaplan would be advantageous.
