Meet the Team
The European Core Operations team in London sits within Operations & Middle Office and supports trading activity across a wide range of asset classes and markets. The team is responsible for maintaining robust front-to-back operational processes and a strong control environment, while partnering closely with portfolio managers, trading, middle office, technology, risk and external brokers in a fast-paced, high-accountability setting.
What You’ll Do
- Act as a senior escalation point for Core Operations issues across portfolio managers, trading groups, middle office, technology, finance, risk and external brokers.
- Oversee the daily trade, position, cash and lifecycle reconciliation process, ensuring breaks are identified, prioritized, escalated and resolved within required timelines.
- Maintain a strong operational control framework through active review of KPIs, KRIs, aging breaks, exception reporting and adherence to firm policies and procedures.
- Support the onboarding of new portfolio managers, trading strategies, products, markets and prime broker relationships.
- Develop and maintain a detailed understanding of front-to-back operational flows across cash equities, equity swaps, fixed income and repo, credit products, futures and listed options, and FX and related lifecycle events.
- Manage operational risk across key lifecycle processes, including corporate actions, option exercises and assignments, futures expiries and deliveries, repo lifecycle events and swap resets.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to support new and existing trading flows, ensuring booking models, reconciliations, reporting and escalation processes are operationally robust.
- Resolve portfolio manager queries relating to trades, positions, P & L, financing, margin, cash and broker reporting.
- Manage and develop relationships with prime brokers, executing brokers, clearing brokers and other external service providers.
- Oversee cash, margin and financing-related processes across prime brokers and product classes.
- Assist in the training, development and oversight of junior team members, ensuring daily responsibilities are performed to a consistently high standard.
- Drive process improvement initiatives, including automation, control enhancements and improved exception management.
What You Bring
- Relevant experience in hedge fund, investment bank, prime brokerage, or asset management operations.
- Strong knowledge of financial instruments and operational processing across multiple asset classes, including equities, swaps, fixed income, repo, futures, options and FX.
- Strong understanding of trade booking, settlement, confirmations, reconciliations, lifecycle events, financing, margin and broker reporting.
- Familiarity with operational risk, regulatory reporting considerations and control frameworks.
- Experience managing or mentoring junior team members.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess operational impact and propose practical solutions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact confidently with portfolio managers, brokers and internal stakeholders.
- Strong sense of urgency, ownership and accountability.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a broader team environment.
- Strong Excel skills, with SQL or coding experience preferred.
