Copthorne Hotel Slough-Windsor is looking for an experienced Chief Engineer to lead the Engineering Department and ensure the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of all hotel engineering services. This senior leadership role is responsible for maintaining the hotel's physical assets, statutory compliance, energy efficiency, and delivering a high standard of comfort, safety, and service for guests and colleagues.

Key Information:

  • Role: Chief Engineer
  • Hours of work: 40 hrs weekly

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engineering & Maintenance Operations: Participate in all engineering and maintenance activities, including the installation, repair, maintenance, and operation of machinery and plant equipment in line with company standards. Deliver a comprehensive Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) programme across all hotel areas, including main plant, public areas, and guest bedrooms. Ensure all maintenance record sheets, logs, and documentation are accurately completed and maintained. Manage repair and maintenance response times to ensure minimal disruption and high levels of guest satisfaction. Oversee refurbishment works in public areas, guest bedrooms, and mechanical and electrical plant. Provide proactive and reactive maintenance support and assist team members during emergencies when required.
  • Compliance, Standards & Quality: Maintain full working knowledge of statutory requirements, including Asbestos regulations and Health & Safety legislation. Ensure compliance with ISO 14001 and ISO 18001 policies and procedures. Apply Millennium & Copthorne Quality Standards, Procedures Manual, and brand standards across guest and non-guest areas. Ensure compliance with all legislation relating to building structure, decoration, gas, electrical systems, water, sewerage, and plant operations. Maintain high standards of staff appearance and uniform presentation in line with Millennium & Copthorne brand image.
  • Guest Experience & Service Excellence: Demonstrate excellent customer contact skills to ensure the highest levels of guest satisfaction at all times. Respond effectively to guest requests, supplier needs, and service demands in accordance with management policies. Apply effective planning and organisation to deliver consistent, high-quality service. Understand and apply building maintenance and repair techniques that enhance guest satisfaction, particularly in meeting and event areas. Review guest questionnaires, feedback, and internal logs to identify trends and resolve operational issues. Develop new engineering programmes from concept stage through implementation and ongoing monitoring.
  • Leadership & Communication: Act as a member of the Hotel Executive Team, participating in departmental meetings and hotel forums. Maintain effective communication with Corporate and Regional Repair & Maintenance support teams. Liaise with external contractors and suppliers, supported by the Cluster Engineering Administrator. Demonstrate an understanding of the main functions of other hotel departments to support duty management responsibilities.
  • Internal Business Control Responsibilities: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of products, systems, and technical advances to ensure the efficient and cost-effective operation of all plant and services. Monitor and measure utility consumption to ensure accurate cost control and reporting. Contribute to achieving Key Result Areas (KRAs) within the hotel's Business Plan. Prepare and manage the annual Property & Maintenance and Utilities Budget, including monthly forecasts. Adhere to operational and financial objectives aligned with the Millennium & Copthorne Business Plan and Budget. Contribute to hotel profitability by controlling departmental costs while maintaining service standards and product quality. Manage stock and spares efficiently to avoid unnecessary cash flow impact. Conduct regular equipment checks and preventative maintenance reporting to reduce replacement and repair costs. Comply with company purchasing procedures, use nominated suppliers, and provide feedback to Procurement and Special Services on supplier performance.
