Langtree Care Home, Chorley Road, Standish, Wigan, Greater Manchester, WN1 2XN

As a Kitchen Assistant, you will assist the Head Chef with daily kitchen operations and undertake all Kitchen Assistant duties as applicable to the highest standard. You will assist in the preparation of meals and liaise with Care staff and residents in a polite person-centred manner whilst maintaining your skills and undertaking such training and development as required.

Role Overview:

  • Support the Head Chef in the day-to-day running of the kitchen and the delivery of consistent, high-quality, delicious and nutritious dishes to our residents.
  • Be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of those individuals the service supports.
  • Encourage our residents and other staff to partake in daily preparation and cooking tasks working in line with the Household Model of Care.
  • Possess knowledge of Health and Safety food regulations, IDDSI framework and coach the rest of the kitchen team.
  • Undertake all Kitchen Assistant duties including cleaning, washing up and putting materials away as per the Head Chef and Sous Chef's requests.
  • Ensure food items are stored correctly and in rotation to minimise wastage using all company labelling and dating processes.
  • Ensure all equipment is in good working order, reporting any faults immediately.
  • Support the delivery and serving of food where required.
  • Have a good understanding and knowledge of individual resident dietary requirements, sharing any concerns to the Head Chef and Sous Chef.
  • Be clean, hygienic and well-presented at all times.

Working with Others:

  • Develop effective working relationships with other employees and support and develop new and less experienced members of the team.
  • Attend and participate in team meetings.
  • Work with the Head Chef in a positive way whilst being proactive in identifying any duties that need to be completed.
  • Be responsible for the health and safety of yourself as well as others in the home under the Health and Safety regulations whilst promptly reporting any hazards or potential hazards to the relevant person.
  • Ability to work under pressure whilst being flexible and consistent.
  • Liaise and communicate effectively with care staff to understand the dietary needs of the residents in the home.

  • Seek opportunities for professional and personal growth and development.
  • Be a role model for other members of the team and be an ambassador for the service.
  • Be professional, polite and reasonable at all times.
  • Provide a warm welcome to all new residents, team members and all visitors and to familiarise them with the home.
  • Have strong communication skills, be cooperative and have excellent attention to detail.
  • Complete opening and closing checks on a daily basis.
  • Utilise all the resources within the kitchen effectively.

Personal and Professional Development:

  • Attend statutory training and any other training as directed whilst being open to learning opportunities.
  • Have a good understanding of dementia and how it affects those living with the disease.
  • Have a basic knowledge of CQC and the fundamental standards.
