We are currently looking for an Adaptations Technician to join the team within our Northamptonshire Community Equipment Services. You will carry out a range of installations of items and make necessary adaptations within our service user’s homes. As a healthcare equipment provider, Millbrook Healthcare works in partnership with the NHS to supply the necessary equipment and aids to support people in their day to day life. Our community equipment ranges from simple walking frames and crutches to more complex equipment such as beds, hoists and pressure care equipment.

Ideally, we are looking for an experienced general Handyperson/Multi-skilled Tradesman who is good with people and can be flexible. This role will involve travelling to various locations within Northampton where you will be responsible for carrying out adaptations within the service user’s homes. Normal tasks may include but are not limited to:

  • Installing various types of internal and external grab rails, galvanized handrails, banister rails and other specialist equipment requiring fixing/installation to walls
  • Carrying out a range of minor home repairs
  • Building external small/medium timber framed & composite decking ramps and half steps
  • Small slab and brickwork alterations to steps or pathways
  • Liaise with clients to discuss and advise on how the works required are to be carried out at the time of visit and for the position of rail heights to suit the user as requested
  • Ensure all works are completed promptly and with the minimum disturbance for the clients
  • Discuss with the coordinator details of any pre-work surveys that you have carried out for time and materials needed with administration personnel to ensure that all appointments made on your behalf are manageable in terms of projected job durations and skills required

What are we looking for?

  • Experience in a relatable environment and position
  • Confident in the use of hand tools and ability to complete the task
  • Excellent communication skills and empathetic approach with our service users
  • Good attention to detail with a level of speed and efficiency
  • Must be able to work off your own initiative as well as part of a team
  • General experience in carpentry is essential
  • General experience in minor adaptation works will be of benefit
  • Knowledge of building regulations and safe systems of work
  • Full UK driving licence (minimum of 2 years)
