The Opportunity: As part of a major expansion supporting infrastructure projects, we are seeking a Software Commissioning Test Team Leader to join a high-performing team based at Aldermaston. You’ll be stepping into a key leadership role where you will ensure safe, compliant, and effective commissioning activities for cutting-edge industrial control systems. This is an opportunity to work in a dynamic, critical sector, where your expertise will directly contribute to operational excellence and security. The role: Contract – This role has been deemed outside IR35 but is dependent on a full status determination assessment.
Security Clearance Requirement: Due to the nature of the work, candidates must be British-born and eligible for UK security clearance.
Remuneration and benefits: £50.00 to £55.00 /hr LTD, dependent on full status determination, alongside this you will also be entitled to health and wellness programmes, flexible working options, professional and career development opportunities, plus many more!
Your Duties and Responsibilities will be:
- Supervise onsite commissioning activities to ensure safe, compliant, and accurate testing is achieved.
- Review commissioning documentation and Safe Systems of Work for suitability.
- Ensure procedures and safe systems are adhered to during commissioning activities.
- Work under approved commissioning procedures and coordinate with other working parties.
- Manage the approval, application, monitoring, and removal of Temporary Commissioning Aids.
- Raise and manage commissioning reservations and escalate issues to management or engineering support when necessary.
- Halt commissioning activities immediately if uncertainties or incidents arise and manage the situation appropriately.
- Ensure the final state of the plant configuration post-commissioning is as per documentation or agreed adjustments.
You will have the following qualifications and experience:
- Hands-on experience with Siemens PLC and SCADA systems.
- Strong understanding of Control Panels, Electrical Installation, and Instrumentation solutions.
- Testing and on-site commissioning experience.
- Strong Health & Safety awareness – SSSTS or SMSTS preferred.
- CSCS Card or equivalent.

- Network Design and Configuration

- Functional Safety
- Industrial Protocols (IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus, OPC, etc.)
The setting for the role: Nuclear / Defence. Risks and Hazards are in line with working on a nuclear licenced site. These can include, nuclear fuel, radiation, working from heights, moving machinery, chemicals and gasses, high voltage equipment, moving vehicles, flammable materials, high pressure circuits, steam, high noise, and vibration levels. A full site induction will be provided, and all safety requirements must be adhered to when entering the site.
