Overview Do you have proven experience as an Electrical, Control & Instrument Engineer focusing on Functional Safety? Do you thrive in a multidisciplinary environment where your EC&I expertise directly shapes nuclear and industrial innovation? Are you looking for a new assignment with a company that values technical leadership, real responsibility, and meaningful impact?The Opportunity An opportunity available for a highly experienced EC&I Engineer with a focus on Functional Safety to support a major nuclear project. The assignment will be based in Birchwood Warrington and hybrid working is available based around a working week of 40 hours. Rate will be dependent on experience due to the need for proven technical functional safety exposure.The role Delivering analytical capability to support the safe operation of a highly regulated site. This capability will be delivered through the refurbishment of an existing facility and will include provision for new/re-purposing of existing alpha containment (e.g. glove boxes, fume cupboards) as well as upgrades and installation of supporting plant wide systems.This role has been deemed inside IR35. Duration: 12 months. This role will be based in Warrington – with Hybrid working also available.Your duties and responsibilities Working with mechanical, process and safety case engineers to develop clear and unambiguous functional safety requirements.Delivering engineering solutions to meet the defined requirements.Producing and checking EC&I design deliverables to programme deadlines and to appropriate relevant standards, codes, and regulations.Supporting fault identification through HAZOP/HAZID studies.Supporting ALARP workshops and optioneering studies to support risk reduction.Management of EC&I design configuration baseline in response to developing project requirements and design information from the supply chain.Responsible for ensuring that throughout remaining phases of the project lifecycle, the EC&I design intent is aligned to safety case requirements (nuclear and conventional) and ensuring all functional requirements are met, ensuring Validation and Verification is adequately managed.You will have the following qualifications & experience BEng/MEng degree or HND/HNC in a relevant field, or demonstrable equivalent experience.Professionally registered or be working towards professional registration.It\’s great if you also have the following Strong understanding of IEC standards: 61508, 61511, and 61513.Demonstrable experience applying functional safety / safety case methodologies in regulated or high-hazard sectors – Previous Nuclear experience is desirable.The setting for the roleThe role will be mainly office based with trips to site if required.
