The Opportunity
Following continued growth in nuclear project activity, an urgent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Project Quality Control Engineer to support the delivery of specialist engineered components for major nuclear projects. Initially, you will play a key role in addressing a backlog of quality documentation associated with manufactured components, reviewing and approving supplier documentation including weld plans and maps, NDT plans, Quality Control Plans and manufacturing records. As this work progresses, you will move into broader support of the Quality Control team, working closely with suppliers, customers and internal project stakeholders throughout the manufacturing and project lifecycle.
Your duties and responsibilities will be
- Liaise with customers to confirm quality requirements/expectations and translate these into workable project quality arrangements.
- Support project quality planning, including preparation and maintenance of project quality documentation (e.g. Quality Plans, ITPs, hold points) and, where required, the drafting of project-specific procedures / local work instructions.
- Review supplier quality arrangements and manufacturing/inspection documentation (e.g. QCPs, weld schedules, NDT procedures) in line with project and client requirements.
- Attend supply chain kick-off meetings, contract review and handover meetings, ensuring quality requirements are understood and embedded.
- Plan, arrange and carry out verification activities such as vendor surveillance and inspection assignments (including liaison with customer inspection personnel where required).
- Complete risk assessments prior to inspection/verification activity taking place.
- Witness and verify key activities (e.g. functional testing), ensuring objective evidence is captured.
- Review and endorse quality records throughout the contract lifecycle (e.g. inspection reports, test packs, certification, supporting quality documentation). - Produce timely reporting and support compilation/review of Lifetime Records / data dossiers through to final handover.
- Support effective management of risks, issues and non-conformances, driving timely corrective actions and closure.
- Ensure compliance with company QMS and HSE policies at all times.
You will have the following qualifications & experience
- Proven background in project QA / quality engineering within a highly regulated environment (Nuclear highly desirable).
- Strong working knowledge and application of ISO 9001.
- Experience with quality planning and verification (e.g. Quality Plans, ITPs, inspections, objective evidence capture, handover documentation).
- Experience working with suppliers/subcontractors and interfacing with customers. Strong written and verbal communication skills; confident stakeholder management.
- T literate (Word/Excel/Outlook).
It’s great if you also have the following
- HNC (or equivalent) in an engineering-related discipline. - Apprenticeship background supported by EITB NVQs.
- Auditor training.
- Exposure to fabrication/welding/NDT/FAT activities in support of project delivery.Willingness to travel within the UK and occasionally overseas.
