An exciting opportunity has opened up with our client for an experienced Lead Process Safety Engineer to act as a Lead Process Safety Engineer for the projects assigned to you, and support the Process Engineering Manager with the development of all delegates within the Process Safety team.
Excellent salary package of £75k-£85k Per Anum depending on experience.
As Support to the Process Engineering Manager:
- You will be a keen motivator, carrying out and managing development and training plans for all the staff employees in your discipline.
- You will review, update and implement all the procedures, standards, guidance notes and forms for your respective discipline.
- You will assist in all recruitment and resourcing of your discipline.
- You will assist in developing proposals and estimates for your discipline.
- You will assist in managing quality of Engineering and Design in respects to your discipline, for both single and multi-discipline projects.
- You will assist in appointing capable discipline checker and approvers.
- You will assist in developing the process safety team capability and look for opportunities for collaboration with colleagues in the client group.
- You shall coordinate and report the progress of your discipline to the Process Engineering Manager.
As Lead Process Safety Engineer:
- Process Safety design within multi-discipline engineering, EPCM or EPC projects.
- You will deliver process safety design to projects that range across the full lifecycle from concept to commissioning, in both green and brownfield applications.
- You will deliver process safety design to projects that range in complexity and size to most industries (Oil & Gas, Nuclear, Energy, Utilities, Chemicals, Petrochemicals and Food).
- You are responsible to deliver the assigned Process Safety design within agreed budget and schedule.
- You shall be able to be client facing and manage the expectations of the client in relation to the project scope.
- You will participate in internal and external design reviews and you are responsible for the design acceptance by the client.
- You will make independent decisions, providing expert technical support within Process Safety.
- You shall be able to lead Process Safety in a multi-discipline environment and be capable of coordinating all Process Safety design, with the other disciplines, Mechanical, Civil and Structural, EC&I and Automation.
- You shall be able to effectively carry out, check and approve Process Safety Design estimates, control and report all costs on allocated projects in terms of progress, scope change and man hours.
- You are responsible to identify change and apply change control management.
Your duties and responsibilities will be:
- Process Design Safety: Integrate safety principles into the design of new and existing processes and systems.
- Safety Reviews & Safety Assessments: Conduct safety reviews and assessments during the design phase to identify and mitigate potential hazards (HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, SIL, ALARP, QRA). Ability to act as Chair under all Process Design Safety Reviews.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that process designs comply with local, national, and international safety regulations and standards.
- Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, operations, and maintenance teams to ensure safety considerations are incorporated into all stages of process design.
- Risk Management: Develop and implement risk management strategies to address identified safety risks.
- Documentation: Prepare and maintain safety documentation, including safety case reports, design safety reviews, and risk assessments. Ability to act as Approver.
- Training and Awareness: Provide training and guidance to engineering teams on process design safety principles and best practices.
- Continuous Improvement: Promote a culture of continuous improvement in process design safety through regular audits, reviews, and updates to safety practices.
You will have the following qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering. A Master’s degree or other safety professional certification (e.g. TUV) is a plus.
- Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (Preferred).
- Minimum of 20 years of experience in process design safety in all the major sectors (Oil & Gas, Nuclear, Energy, Utilities, Chemicals, Petrochemicals and Food).
- Experience in managing and implementing strict quality control and procedures.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication and leadership abilities, and proficiency in safety analysis software and tools.
