Are you ready to take full ownership of a landmark renewable energy project and leave a lasting legacy on the UK’s infrastructure landscape?

This is a career-defining leadership opportunity to take full ownership of a major hydro-electric power scheme that will play a critical role in the UK’s transition to sustainable energy. Our client, a leading Tier 1 infrastructure organisation, has secured a flagship project in the Scottish Highlands and is seeking a Project Director to lead it from strategic delivery planning through to successful completion. This role has arisen due to the scale, complexity, and national importance of the programme, requiring an exceptional leader to guide multi-disciplinary teams, joint venture partners, and key stakeholders.

As Project Director, you will set the vision, shape delivery strategy, and be ultimately accountable for ensuring the project is delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Your duties and responsibilities will be:

  • Take full accountability for the safe design and construction of the project, ensuring a “safety-first” culture at all times
  • Develop and lead the overall project delivery strategy from pre-construction through completion
  • Ensure projects are delivered to agreed budget, programme, and quality targets
  • Plan and manage resources, overheads, and operational performance to meet business objectives
  • Lead, inspire, and develop high-performing project teams across all disciplines
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, joint venture partners, and key stakeholders
  • Represent the organisation at senior level, acting as the primary point of leadership and decision-making
  • Ensure alignment with company values, policies, and strategic objectives
  • Oversee recruitment, team development, and succession planning within the project
  • Drive collaboration and integrated working across all project partners

You will have the following qualifications & experience:

  • Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or related discipline
  • Chartered status (or equivalent professional membership) preferred
  • Extensive experience (typically 20+ years) delivering major infrastructure or construction projects
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering large-scale, complex programmes in the UK
  • Strong leadership experience managing multi-disciplinary and multi-organisational teams
  • Deep understanding of commercial, contractual, and delivery frameworks
  • Demonstrated ability to manage risk, programme, and cost at a strategic level

It’s great if you also have the following:

  • Experience working on hydro-electric, energy, or renewable infrastructure projects
  • Experience in joint venture or alliance environments
  • Strong stakeholder management across public and private sector clients
  • Experience leading projects in remote or logistically challenging environments
  • Track record of building and developing high-performing leadership teams

The setting for the role:

This is a senior site-based leadership role within a major hydro-electric scheme in the Scottish Highlands. You will operate at the centre of a complex delivery environment, leading large, integrated teams and working closely with clients, partners, and executive stakeholders. The role demands a highly visible, strategic, and hands-on leadership approach.
