An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Civil Structural Engineer to join a highly performing engineering team working in a safety critical environment. You will play a key role in supporting complex infrastructure projects, ensuring design integrity, safety compliance, and long-term asset performance. This is a highly technical position offering exposure to challenging engineering problems, major programmes, and a stable workstream within a regulated sector.
Your duties and responsibilities will be:
- Author, develop, assess, and maintain civil and structural design substantiation documentation
- Support design changes and concessions ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory requirements
- Produce and review technical justification for structural modifications in a high hazard environment
- Contribute to safety case documentation and periodic safety reviews
- Develop and manage Examination, Inspection, Maintenance and Testing schedules
- Present technical information to engineering and safety governance panels
- Review third party technical submissions and contractor deliverables
- Carry out independent technical assessments and peer reviews
- Check calculations and technical reports produced by other engineers
- Provide technical guidance to internal and external stakeholders
- Apply engineering principles across the full asset lifecycle from design through to decommissioning
You will have the following qualifications & experience:
- Minimum 5 years experience in civil or structural design or assessment
- Experience working with reinforced concrete and steel structures
- Experience designing for dynamic loading such as seismic, blast, wind, or environmental loads
- Experience working on marine or coastal structures such as seawalls or jetties
- Ability to produce robust technical justification for engineering changes
- Experience working within high hazard or highly regulated industries
- Knowledge of British Standards and Eurocodes
- Minimum HNC or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline
- Incorporated Engineer or equivalent experience
It’s great if you also have the following:
- Experience within nuclear or similarly regulated environments
- Familiarity with safety case methodologies such as HAZID or HAZOP
- Knowledge of nuclear industry regulations and standards
- Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Chartered Engineer status
This role offers a hybrid working environment, combining remote working with time spent on site within a secure and highly regulated engineering setting. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering engineering solutions in a safety critical infrastructure environment.
