The Senior Designer will provide technical leadership and support to a team of multi-discipline designers within a highly regulated nuclear environment. The role ensures that design outputs meet required standards across the full lifecycle—from concept through to in-service support. This position requires strong engineering knowledge, proven CAD capability, and excellent communication skills. The successful candidate will bring specialist expertise and substantial experience within their design discipline.
Your duties and responsibilities will be:
- Lead and allocate tasks to a team of designers, ensuring drawing quality, accuracy, and inter-discipline coordination in line with regulatory and industry standards.
- Foster effective collaboration across design, engineering, and other functional teams.
- Support customer engagement, including technical liaison, issue resolution, and maintaining clear communication on progress and deliverables.
- Advise on appropriate design methods, tools, and best practices; provide technical guidance to the design team.
- Produce and review drawings for basic, detailed, and production design in accordance with ISO and engineering standards, meeting time, cost, and quality requirements.
- Act as a key point of contact for engineering colleagues and stakeholders on discipline-specific matters throughout the design lifecycle.
- Assist in resolving production and technical queries, supporting the development of solutions related to manufacturing and installation.
- Contribute to Learning from Experience (LfE) activities during and after project delivery.
- Develop innovative design solutions and undertake Design Lead responsibilities for low-risk, multi-discipline work packages.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of best practice, standards, and tools across the design lifecycle; promote a culture of continuous improvement.
- Monitor industry developments, including new techniques, integration methods, bill-of-materials control, and design maturity management.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation and company policies, promoting high standards of safety, ethics, and professional behaviour.
- Support tendering activities, including reviewing requirements and contributing to estimates.
- Contribute to business development activities through technical presentations, academic engagement, conferences, and identification of new opportunities.
You will have the following qualifications & experience:
- HNC/HND (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering or design discipline.
- Significant experience in a detailed design environment.
- Strong proficiency with CAD tools.
- Solid understanding of General Engineering Drawing Practice.
- Incorporated Engineer status (or working toward).
- Demonstrable experience leading a multi-discipline design team.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work across multiple engineering disciplines.

- Broad experience across commercial or defence-related engineering projects.
