We’re looking for an experienced Permit to Work Coordinator to join an established construction team working on a major UK engineering project. The role will be responsible for administering and coordinating the site-wide Permit to Work (PTW) system, ensuring permits are managed effectively and that construction activities are properly coordinated to minimise risk, particularly where simultaneous operations (SIMOPS) are taking place. The Role As Permit to Work Coordinator, you will play a key role in maintaining an effective PTW process across the construction site, working closely with contractors, vendors, project teams and HSE personnel. Key responsibilities will include: Administering and controlling the site-wide Permit to Work system. Maintaining an effective PTW procedure that reflects the evolving requirements of the project. Delivering PTW training to personnel involved in the permit process. Chairing daily PTW/SIMOPS meetings to review and approve pending permits. Providing guidance and support to contractors and project personnel on permit requirements, applications and supporting documentation. Ensuring permits are correctly issued, reviewed, authorised and closed in accordance with the project PTW procedure. Acting as a Permit Issuer and overseeing the issue and return of permits. Maintaining accurate records of active, issued and closed permits. Maintaining the PTW/SIMOPS board to provide clear visibility of ongoing work activities. Maintaining a SIMOPS register and identifying potential clashes or conflicts between concurrent activities. Coordinating work activities to minimise hazards associated with simultaneous operations. Verifying that risk assessments and Task-Based Risk Assessments (TBRA) are completed before work commences. Monitoring compliance with permit conditions and the wider PTW procedure. Maintaining the daily PTW register and ensuring all documentation remains accurate and up to date. Supporting the coordination and approval of electrical, mechanical and process isolations where required. Producing regular PTW statistics and identifying trends for review with the Site HSE Manager. Immediately reporting PTW non-compliance and other significant issues to the HSE Manager. Working closely with contractors, vendors and project stakeholders to ensure an effective and efficient permit process. Supporting the implementation and transition to digital Permit to Work systems while maintaining system integrity and minimising disruption.About You The successful Permit to Work Coordinator will have experience managing permit systems within a construction, engineering or other high-hazard environment. You will have: NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent. Proven experience managing Permit to Work systems, ideally within large-scale EPC or EPCM construction projects. Experience working within construction or another high-hazard industry. Relevant and valid CSCS certification, or willingness to work towards this. Experience with risk assessment and risk management processes. Good understanding of SIMOPS and the coordination of multiple concurrent construction activities. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with contractors and project stakeholders. Excellent planning, organisational and administrative skills. Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to documentation. Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and experience working with digital platforms. The ability to remain calm and effective when working under pressure. A proactive approach to identifying and driving improvements. Ability to work collaboratively within a wider project and HSE team. Commitment to ongoing professional development and maintaining high safety standards.Desirable Experience The following would also be advantageous: Qualification or experience as a safety and environmental management systems auditor. Experience fulfilling CDM duties on construction projects. Experience developing, implementing or operating digital Permit to Work systems. Previous experience within an HSE management role.
