The Opportunity An opportunity has arisen to support a major chemical manufacturer and to support the safety of their top-tier COMAH site. As the Process Safety Engineer, you will be responsible for leading hazard studies and modernising older parts of the plant to improve safety. The role holds lots of variety as there will be the option to utilise your process engineering skills as well and support the upgrades and optimization of the plant where required in a project leadership capacity. There is also room to grow, as opportunities to develop your skills and take more ownership and leadership of the technical and safety requirements of the site will be available at you develop your career in this role. Salary is dependent on experience, and the package will include a generous pension and life assurance scheme, discretionary bonus and access to other benefits you can opt into. The role You will lead and deliver process engineering requirements with a particular focus on process safety to manage and minimise risk to people, the environment and the business from the manufacture and storage of large quantities of hazardous chemicals. Your key responsibilities and accountabilities include * You will work with the UK regulators on major hazard issues (especially COMAH) in order to maintain our licence to operate * Be the key point of contact with the EA in ensuring we comply with the requirements of the Environmental Permitting Regulations * Identify and drive process safety improvements across the site including alarm management * Ensure that all human factors are robustly audited to ensure the risks are minimised. * Represent the Company at key events and with governing bodies to ensure sharing of best practice * Assess the impact of changes to our operations, both permanent and temporary, to ensure lowest possible risk * Work with the other parts of the business and sites to ensure a consistent approach in Process Safety Management procedures * Plan and oversee the Emergency Exercise program for the MAH scenarios on site You will have the following qualifications and experience * Ideally a Chartered Chemical Engineer with significant engineering experience of major hazards operations * You will be a degree qualified Chemical Engineer with proven process safety experience working on a COMAH site. * A strong set of Process Safety engineering skills, such as Hazard Study Leader, Hazard Analysis (Faut & Event tree), Bow-tie, dispersion modelling, human factors assessments, LOPA and SIL Assessments * Previous experience in the development and review of Safety Reports in line with the COMAH 2015 regs * Previous experience in working with the Competent Authorities (HSE & EA) Your personal traits will include * Strong leadership skills and able to coach and influence at all levels * Extensive understanding of relevant legislation and standards * Excellent verbal and written communication skills * Technical problem solving * Extensive understanding of Process Engineering standards and a concern and commitment to meet these * Thoroughness and accuracy The setting for the role Risks and Hazards are in line with working on a chemical site (Top Tier COMAH site). These can include, chemical burns, trips and falls, overexertion, cuts and scrapes, chemical exposure, inhalation of chemicals and confined spaces. A full site induction will be provided, and all safety requirements must be adhered to when entering the site.
