The Opportunity
We are seeking a highly skilled Principal HVAC Engineer to join our client's expanding engineering team, contributing to the successful delivery of large-scale and technically challenging projects within the nuclear sector. This role is ideal for an experienced HVAC professional looking to make a significant impact in a highly regulated, safety-focused environment.
The Role
As a Principal HVAC Engineer, you will be at the forefront of designing and overseeing the installation and operation of complex HVAC systems, ensuring all activities meet the highest standards of safety, compliance, and performance. You will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, internal stakeholders, and clients to deliver innovative HVAC solutions that support critical infrastructure needs.
Your duties and responsibilities will be:
- Lead the design and engineering of HVAC systems for nuclear and high-integrity facilities.
- Ensure all designs and installations comply with applicable industry codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct detailed analysis and troubleshooting to solve complex HVAC challenges.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and design teams.
- Support project planning, cost estimation, and risk assessment for HVAC-related scopes.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, and internal teams to ensure smooth project execution and alignment of technical deliverables.
- Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs, and safety assessments.
You will have the following qualifications and experience:
- Deep expertise in HVAC engineering and design within regulated industries (preferably nuclear).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
- Proven leadership and team coordination experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Chartered Engineer status or working toward it (preferred).
- Relevant HVAC certifications (e.g., ASHRAE, CIBSE, or equivalent) are advantageous.
- Demonstrated experience in delivering HVAC systems for complex infrastructure projects.
- Prior experience in the nuclear or similarly regulated sector is highly desirable.
