This opportunity has arisen due to significant project growth and increased demand across a major civil engineering portfolio, creating the need for an experienced Design Engineer to support the delivery of high-profile, technically challenging schemes. Working for a respected international engineering contractor known for innovation, digital engineering excellence, and major infrastructure capability, you’ll take charge of coordinating multiple design consultants, driving permanent works solutions, managing design interfaces, and ensuring all outputs meet programme, quality and client expectations. Your duties and responsibilities:
- To manage design consultant activities and deliverables to ensure they are completed in line with the agreed programme and Client requirements.
- To be the technical lead for the permanent works design on the project unless a Design Manager is present.
- To ensure both input and output deliverables for the design are tracked and reported to the client Project/Engineering Manager as required.
- To manage the Technical Queries process, assigning actions and following up on responses.
- To manage and communicate all design queries, comments and information required from Design workshops and meetings and keep records.
- To raise requests for further information internally and externally from the whole project team.
- To support the Design manager to ensure all design deliverables are timeously provided as per the design programmes.
- To review Designers Monthly reports and produce monthly reports on design progress and any other design specific elements.
- To manage and update the design deliverable schedule.
- To review all design deliverables and ensure that they are completed to the expected standard, challenging and resolving when not, including reviewing all drawings in line with the Clients Scope/requirements.
- To attend interface meetings with external parties, keeping records of meetings and assigning/following up on actions related to the Design.
- To arrange internal design interface meetings with the construction department.
- To ensure compliance with design management processes required by the contract.
- To collaborate with the engagement of external suppliers/subcontractors.
- To manage provision of drawings to the project team – document control.
- To manage the BIM requirements for permanent and temporary works together with the BIM/CAD Technician.
- To assist the Lead TWC as design lead for temporary works design packages for the project and ensure the Temporary Works Process is implemented and followed at all times.
Additional Duties:
- Any other duties consistent with your status and seniority, as necessary to meet the needs of the Business of the Company.
- Liaise with Designer or representative as required under the contract.
- Work with Technical Services Department to ensure that best practice in relation to design management is upheld.
- Promote HOCHTIEF to all clients, designers and other external organisations.
- Maintain contacts with Consultants, Clients, and other bodies as appropriate to represent HOCHTIEF demonstrating our ability to provide best value.
- Assist with the recruitment of engineers and technicians at all levels, including interviewing and identifying potential recruits from competitor companies.
- Assist with the training and development of engineers in the sector at all levels including the attainment of professional qualifications.
- Build the profile of HOCHTIEF in schools, universities, consultants and other external organisations.
- Implement CDM requirements.
You will have the following qualifications & experience:
- Wide-ranging understanding and working knowledge of construction methods and outputs and can coach others.
- Will have both substantial construction and design experience.
- Understands the Principal Designer Duties.
- Exceptional know-how in implementing and promoting Digital Engineering practices in Design as well as construction.
- Heavy civil engineering projects and tunnelling experience advantageous.
