The Opportunity
We are seeking a proactive and experienced Environmental & Waste Engineer/Manager to lead sustainability and environmental compliance across major projects in Cumbria. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring that all operations meet environmental legislation, client requirements, and the company's sustainability objectives.
Salary: £45,000 - £50,000 + company car
Location: Cumbria, 45hrs per week
Your duties and responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and monitor environmental management plans for construction projects.
- Ensure compliance with UK environmental legislation, permits, and industry standards.
- Conduct environmental risk assessments and audits, providing recommendations for improvement.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies, local authorities, and stakeholders on environmental matters.
- Promote sustainable practices across project teams, including waste reduction, energy efficiency, and biodiversity protection.
- Provide training and guidance to staff and subcontractors on environmental policies and best practices.
- Prepare reports and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
- Support the company's wider ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) initiatives.
It’s great if you also have the following:
- Degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, or related discipline.
- Proven experience in environmental management within the construction or infrastructure sector.
- Strong knowledge of UK environmental legislation, ISO 14001, and sustainability frameworks.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to influence and drive change across diverse project teams.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., IEMA, CIWM) is desirable.
