The Opportunity
Civil Engineering sector, tier 1 experience preferred. This is an exciting opportunity to step into a senior engineering leadership role at a time of growth, innovation, and increased demand across multiple major infrastructure projects. You will play a pivotal part in shaping technical excellence, influencing engineering strategy, and driving high-quality delivery across bids and live projects. This role offers the chance to lead talented engineering teams, introduce cutting-edge techniques and technologies, and directly impact successful project outcomes while supporting the long-term development of engineering capability across the organisation.
Your duties and responsibilities
- Ensure engineering processes and procedures are consistently implemented across all projects in your sector.
- Lead technical assurance across design, construction, commissioning, and project handover.
- Provide expert technical advice to sector leaders, clients, and bid teams.
- Line-manage design managers, supporting their performance and development.
- Review and update engineering procedures to align with the latest standards and industry best practice.
- Promote the use of new technology, innovation, and best practice in both permanent and temporary works.
- Uphold high standards of safety, quality, and environmental practices and challenge poor performance when necessary.
- Support recruitment, training, and the professional development of engineers across all levels.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, universities, and industry partners.
- Support the development, competency assessment, and movement of engineering staff across projects and bids.
You will have the following qualifications & experience
- Chartered Engineer status (or equivalent).
- Extensive experience across both construction and design environments.
- Capability to deputise for a Project Manager when needed.
- Strong understanding of Principal Designer duties and ERIC principles.
It\’s great if you also have the following
- Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams on complex infrastructure projects
- A history of implementing innovative engineering solutions or digital technologies
- Strong client-facing and stakeholder-management experience
- Experience supporting engineers through professional qualification routes
- Involvement in preparing technical content for bids, tenders, or work-winning activities
