The Opportunity
An established engineering consultancy is seeking a Principal Structural Engineer to provide technical leadership across major structural projects, operating within highly regulated and technically demanding environments. This is a pivotal, permanent role offering influence, autonomy and the opportunity to shape both projects and people.
We would also welcome applications from these industries: Nuclear, defence, rail, highways, life sciences, public sector infrastructure.
Your duties and responsibilities will be:
- Lead and coordinate the delivery of structural design across large projects or multiple concurrent workstreams, ensuring quality, safety and programme are maintained.
- Manage, mentor and develop teams of engineers, technicians and graduates, ensuring appropriate resourcing and technical support.
- Review and approve structural outputs including calculations, drawings, reports, specifications and digital models, acting as a recognised technical authority.
- Control budgets, programmes and change management while contributing to bids, fee proposals and technical scopes of work.
- Promote safe design, buildable solutions, sustainability and continuous improvement while reporting progress and performance to senior leadership.
You will have the following qualifications and experience:
- Chartered Engineer status via IStructE or ICE, with extensive experience leading structural design teams.
- Strong working knowledge of UK structural design codes, standards and assurance processes.
- Broad technical capability across building structures, substructures, materials and structural assessment, with experience in complex or regulated sectors.
- High proficiency using structural analysis software, with the ability to review and challenge complex analytical models.
- Eligibility to obtain UK Security Clearance, a valid CSCS card, full right to work in the UK and a full UK driving licence.
