Can you demonstrate previous experience of designing or assessing HV/LV electrical systems within a regulated or high-hazard environment? Can you evidence producing clear, robust technical justification to support electrical design modifications or design changes being authorised?
The Electrical Engineer will work within a multi-disciplinary engineering team, directly supporting both ongoing operations and future programmes across a high-hazard environment. This is a remote position with occasional visits up to site near Glasgow when required.
Your duties and responsibilities will be:
- Develop, author, assess, and maintain engineering design substantiation documentation for high‑hazard infrastructure
- Produce and manage design changes, concessions, and associated impact assessments
- Present design substantiations to internal safety and technical governance committees
- Develop and maintain EIMT schedules, operating procedures, and supporting documentation to demonstrate ongoing compliance with safety case requirements
- Produce or assess Periodic Review of Safety reports
- Provide technical advice to internal and external stakeholders
- Conduct Independent Technical Assessment (ITA) and Independent Peer Review (IPR)
- Apply specialist and general engineering knowledge to evaluate and implement new and emerging technologies
- Provide technical justification to support the authorization of electrical design modifications in a high-hazard environment
- Review technical reports and safety case submissions from contractors and suppliers
- Check and review calculations and documentation prepared by others
Qualifications & experience
Essential
- Previous experience in the design or assessment of HV or LV electrical installations
- Proven experience developing technical justification for electrical design changes or modifications
- Practical application of specialist and general engineering knowledge, including implementing new or emerging technology
- Experience working within multi-disciplinary engineering teams
Desirable
- Experience in a nuclear, defence, or other high‑hazard regulated environment
- Experience applying lifecycle engineering principles to design, construction, commissioning, operation, and decommissioning
- Familiarity with safety case development and hazard identification techniques (e.g. HAZID, HAZOP)
It’s great if you also have the following
Essential
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related discipline
- Incorporated Engineer status (or equivalent experience)
Desirable
- Chartered Engineer status
