Location: Whickham – Gateshead

Hours: Full-time, Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm

Start: September

Pay: £107.71 per day

Are you a caring and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant looking for your next opportunity? Do you have a passion for supporting children as they develop confidence, independence, and key skills in Key Stage 2? Milk Education is working in partnership with a welcoming primary school in Whickham to appoint a Year 4 Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated team from September.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teaching & Learning
    • Support the class teacher in delivering engaging and effective lessons
    • Provide one-to-one and small group support where required
    • Assist pupils with English, Maths, and the wider Key Stage 2 curriculum
    • Help prepare learning resources and maintain an organised classroom environment
    • Support pupils in developing confidence, resilience, and independent learning skills
  • Pupil Support & Wellbeing
    • Encourage positive behaviour and active engagement with learning
    • Support pupils’ social, emotional, and academic development
    • Build positive relationships with pupils to promote confidence and self-esteem
    • Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
  • Teamwork & Professional Practice
    • Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and parents where appropriate
    • Support assessment activities and monitor pupil progress
    • Follow safeguarding procedures and school policies at all times
    • Contribute positively to the wider school community

Essential Criteria

  • Recent experience working with primary-aged children, ideally within Key Stage 2
  • A teaching assistant qualification
  • A positive, patient, and proactive approach to supporting learning
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
  • Must live locally to Gateshead—no relocation
