Location: Woking, Surrey

Contract: Full-time or Part-time considered

Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm, term-time only

School Type: Primary (with some SEN needs across year groups).

About the Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a central role in supporting pupils’ learning, emotional wellbeing, and personal development. The role involves working both in the classroom and on a one-to-one or small-group basis with pupils who require additional support.

Daily responsibilities include:

  • Supporting pupils with their learning across all curriculum areas
  • Working one-to-one with children who may have additional needs such as ASD, ADHD, Speech & Language difficulties, SEMH needs, or academic delay
  • Leading or assisting with small-group interventions (phonics, reading, maths boosters, social skills groups)
  • Helping to create a positive, calm and purposeful learning environment
  • Supporting behaviour management using positive strategies
  • Preparing resources, assisting with displays, and helping the class teacher with classroom organisation
  • Supervising pupils during transitions, break, and lunchtime
  • Recording observations, feeding back to teachers, and contributing to pupil progress discussions

We are seeking a candidate who is:

Essential qualities:

  • Passionate about supporting children’s development
  • Patient, calm, and able to form strong, positive relationships with pupils
  • A good communicator who can work effectively as part of a team
  • Reliable, enthusiastic, and willing to learn new skills
  • Able to follow instructions but also use initiative
  • Confident with English and Maths (GCSE grade C/4 or above)

Desirable experience:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people
  • Knowledge of SEND (particularly ASD, ADHD, SEMH, Speech & Language)
  • Experience with behaviour management strategies
  • Familiarity with phonics programmes such as Little Wandle
  • Understanding of EHCPs and personalised learning plans
