Milk Education is partnering with a specialist SEND school in Wakefield WF2 to recruit passionate Autism Support Workers who want to make a real difference in the lives of children and young people with complex needs. This role focuses on supporting learners with Autism, ADHD, and a range of additional learning difficulties, including students who are non-verbal or have significant communication needs.
If you’re patient, calm, and confident in providing structured support and consistent emotional care, this could be the perfect role for you. Pupils may have sensory processing differences, communication challenges, or behaviours that reflect unmet needs.
Both full-time and part-time positions are available, offering flexibility to suit your availability.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide consistent 1:1 and small group support for pupils aged 5–19 with complex SEND, including Autism & ADHD
- Support non-verbal pupils using alternative and augmentative communication strategies
- Use tools such as Makaton, visual timetables, and communication boards to aid understanding and engagement
- Assist in delivering EHCP targets and personalised learning plans
- Encourage emotional regulation, communication, and engagement in learning
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with teachers, support staff, and external professionals
- Help maintain a structured, calm, and inclusive learning environment
- Experience supporting children or young people with complex SEND
- Previous experience administering personal care is advantageous, or willingness to assist
- A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
- Patient, caring, and non-judgemental
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work independently and proactively
- Enhanced DBS certificate on the update service, or willingness to apply
