Milk Education is looking for a patient, enthusiastic and encouraging Reading Support Assistant to join a welcoming Primary School in

Hartlepool this September.

You’ll be helping pupils who may need a little extra encouragement with reading, phonics, comprehension and literacy , working alongside teachers to make learning feel enjoyable and achievable.

This isn’t about simply sitting beside a child while they read.

It’s about helping them discover a love of books, celebrate their progress and believe in what they can achieve.

  • What You’ll Be Doing
  • Supporting pupils with reading and phonics on a 1:1 and small-group basis.
  • Helping children develop their vocabulary, comprehension and confidence.
  • Encouraging reluctant readers to become more engaged with books.
  • Supporting literacy-based activities and interventions.
  • Helping pupils practise new sounds, words and reading skills.
  • Making reading sessions fun, positive and engaging .
  • Working alongside the class teacher to identify areas where pupils need additional support.
  • Celebrating progress and encouraging children to become independent learners.

  • Has a genuine passion for helping children develop their confidence .
  • Is patient, enthusiastic and encouraging.
  • Enjoys reading and can make learning feel fun.
  • Communicates clearly and builds positive relationships with children.
  • Can work confidently with individuals and small groups.
  • Has experience in a school, nursery, childcare, tutoring or youth setting – desirable but not essential .
  • Could be a graduate, aspiring teacher or someone with volunteering/placement experience .
  • Is reliable and ready to become a valued member of a school team.
