Do you have a passion for supporting children with diverse learning needs and helping them thrive in a nurturing, inclusive school environment? Are you ready to make a genuine difference to young people who need patience, understanding, and tailored support to achieve their potential? We are looking for Additional Needs Teaching Assistants to join our dedicated team in the Sunderland area. This fulfilling role centres on supporting pupils with a range of additional needs—including Autism, ADHD, learning delays, and social/emotional challenges—to access learning, regulate emotions, and develop confidence.
You’ll work closely with teachers, the SENDCo, and pastoral staff to create a positive, therapeutic learning environment where every child feels valued, supported, and motivated to succeed.
Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm, Monday to Friday
What You Need:
- Experience supporting children or young people, ideally those with SEND or additional needs
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build trust and positive relationships
- The ability to provide two recent references (work-based or educational)
- A compassionate, proactive approach and a genuine commitment to inclusive education
Key Responsibilities:
- Support pupils’ academic, emotional and social development within the classroom and wider school setting
- Implement personalised strategies that promote focus, emotional regulation and engagement
- Encourage learning through creative, differentiated, and therapeutic activities
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENDCOs, and external professionals to provide consistent, tailored support
- Adapt approaches to meet individual learning needs and help track pupil progress
- Contribute to pastoral care, ensuring every child feels safe, supported, and ready to learn
- Communicate effectively with parents and carers, sharing successes and promoting strong home–school relationships
