Are you a passionate QTS-qualified teacher looking to make a meaningful difference to children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic SEMH Teacher to join a specialist SEMH school in Stockport, supporting pupils who may experience behavioural, emotional and social challenges. This is an excellent opportunity for a QTS-qualified teacher who is passionate about creating a safe, structured and nurturing learning environment where pupils can overcome barriers to education and achieve their potential.

The Role

  • Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons for pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Support pupils with behavioural, emotional and social difficulties, as well as additional SEND needs.
  • Build strong, positive relationships with pupils through a calm and consistent approach.
  • Use positive behaviour support, de-escalation and restorative approaches.
  • Promote emotional regulation, resilience, confidence and independence.
  • Adapt teaching and learning to meet individual pupil needs and EHCP outcomes.
  • Set clear boundaries while maintaining a nurturing and supportive classroom environment.
  • Monitor pupil progress and adapt teaching strategies accordingly.
  • Work closely with Teaching Assistants, pastoral staff and other professionals.
  • Support pupils during challenging periods, transitions and wider school activities.

We’re Looking For an SEMH Teacher Who:

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Has experience working with, or a strong interest in supporting, SEMH pupils.
  • Has a good understanding of positive behaviour management and emotional regulation.
  • Is calm, patient and resilient when managing challenging behaviour.
  • Can build strong and trusting relationships with children and young people.
  • Has excellent communication, organisation and teamwork skills.
  • Is adaptable and confident responding to individual pupil needs.
  • Has a genuine passion for helping pupils overcome barriers to learning.

Previous SEMH or specialist school experience is desirable but not essential. We welcome applications from QTS-qualified teachers with experience in mainstream, SEND, SEMH or other specialist educational settings.
