Our client, a welcoming and inclusive secondary school in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, is seeking an experienced and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to join their specialist SEND provision.

This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a dedicated team committed to supporting students with a range of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). The successful candidate will play a vital role in helping young people access education, develop independence, and achieve their individual potential within a supportive learning environment.

Due to the needs of the students, applicants must hold current Manual Handling / Moving and Handling training and have experience supporting young people with additional needs.

The Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will:

• Provide one-to-one and small-group support for students with a range of SEND, including autism, complex learning needs, physical disabilities, and communication needs.
• Support students with mobility, transfers, and personal care where required, following individual care plans and safe manual handling procedures.
• Work closely with teaching staff and the wider SEND team to deliver tailored support and promote student engagement.
• Encourage students’ independence, confidence, and social development.
• Help prepare learning resources and adapt classroom activities to meet individual needs.
• Monitor student progress and contribute to reviews and support plans.
• Promote positive behaviour and maintain a safe, inclusive learning environment.
• Follow safeguarding, health and safety, and school policies at all times.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful applicant will have:

• Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND, ideally within a secondary school or specialist setting.
• A valid Manual Handling / Moving and Handling qualification.
• Experience supporting students with physical disabilities, autism, or complex learning needs.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• A calm, patient, and adaptable approach.
• A genuine passion for supporting young people to achieve their full potential.
• A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
