Job Title: SEN Learning Buddy

Salary/Rate: Permanent (Salary starting from £22,000)

Hours: 8:30am – 4:00pm

Location: Earls Court

To work under the instruction and guidance of the ABA/ VB Supervisor to assist with the management of pupils and undertake teaching and care for key pupils carrying out pupils’ support programme and enabling independence and access to learning for all. The role includes supporting and inspiring vulnerable young people to be the best they can be as well as provide educational progress and support with sensory processing difficulties.

Use and develop knowledge and understanding of Applied Behavioural Analysis and Verbal Behaviour approaches and methodology and ensure that personal knowledge of ABA VB is kept up to date.

The SEN Learning Buddy will:

1. Supervise and support pupils to ensure their safety and access to learning.
2. Establish good relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and being aware of and responding appropriately to individual needs.
3. Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils.
4. Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities.
5. Attend to the pupil’s personal needs and implement related personal programmes.
6. Encourage pupils to act independently as appropriate.
7. Assist with the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans, Behaviour Plans and Personal Care programmes.
8. Promote self-esteem and independence.
9. Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement.
10. Encourage pupils to interact and work co-operatively with others.
11. Participate in assessment of pupils, e.g., VBMAPP, AFLLS, lesson reviews.
12. Carry out a variety of therapy programmes with support of therapists.
13. Support pupils in specialist areas, e.g., swimming at a local leisure centre.
14. Support pupils learning during the lunch and play time.

SEN Learning Buddy will support the school by:

1. Be aware of and comply with all school policies and procedures including those relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
2. Demonstrate excellent attendance and punctuality.
3. Ensure that all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop.
4. Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school.
5. Participate in training and performance development as required.
6. Assist in liaison with parents, therapists and other staff.
7. Attend and participate in relevant meetings as required.
