We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Science Technician with a specialism in Chemistry to join our dynamic science department. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with a strong scientific background and a passion for supporting practical science education in a school setting.
The Role
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the delivery of high-quality science lessons, with a particular focus on chemistry practicals. Responsibilities will include:
- Preparing and setting up laboratory equipment and chemical solutions for practical lessons.
- Ensuring safe storage, handling, and disposal of chemicals in line with health and safety regulations.
- Supporting teachers in the delivery of engaging and effective practical science sessions.
- Maintaining and organising laboratory stock, equipment, and resources.
- Carrying out routine checks, maintenance, and cleaning of lab equipment.
- Ensuring all laboratories operate in accordance with health and safety procedures and COSHH regulations.
- Providing technical support to staff and students during practical activities.
About You
We are looking for a candidate who:
- Has a strong background in Chemistry, ideally with a degree in Chemistry or a closely related scientific discipline.
- Has experience working in a laboratory environment (school, university, or industry experience is highly desirable).
- Is confident in the safe handling of chemicals and has a strong understanding of laboratory health and safety procedures.
- Possesses good IT skills and is comfortable using digital systems for stock control, documentation, and communication.
- Has excellent communication skills with strong written and spoken English.
- Is organised, reliable, and able to manage multiple tasks effectively in a busy environment.
- Demonstrates a proactive attitude and a genuine long-term interest in working as a Science Technician within education.
