Are you an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant looking to make a genuine difference in the lives of young people with complex needs? We are currently recruiting for a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist SEN secondary school in Havering. This is a rewarding opportunity to support students with a range of additional needs, including Autism (ASC), Complex Learning Difficulties, Speech & Language Needs, SEMH, and challenging behaviour. The school provides a supportive and nurturing environment for students aged 11–19 and is seeking resilient, proactive, and empathetic individuals who are passionate about helping young people achieve their full potential.
The Role:
- Supporting students on a 1:1 and small group basis
- Assisting with personalised learning and classroom engagement
- Supporting students with complex behavioural, emotional, and communication needs
- Encouraging independence, social development, and emotional regulation
- Working closely with teachers, therapists, and other support staff
- Creating a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Previous experience working within an SEN school or alternative provision
- Strong experience supporting children or young adults with complex needs
- Knowledge of Autism, SEMH, ADHD, MLD, PMLD, or behavioural needs
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach
- Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills
- A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people
- Team Teach or MAPA training is desirable but not essential
