Durham | September 2026 | Primary Schools | Full Time

Looking for a role that offers flexibility, variety and the chance to make a real difference?

Milk Education is seeking enthusiastic and dependable Support Assistants to join our supply team across Durham!

If you love working with children but would prefer not to be in the same classroom every day, supply teaching could be a great fit for you.

As a Support Assistant, you’ll have the opportunity to work in a variety of welcoming Primary Schools, supporting different year groups, teachers and pupils.

You could find yourself helping Year 2 pupils develop their reading skills one day, supporting a Year 6 maths lesson the next, or getting creative with an engaging afternoon classroom activity.

With every new school comes a new experience, new faces and a fresh opportunity to have a positive impact on pupils’ learning and development.

Support Assistant – What Could You Be Doing?

  • Supporting teachers with everyday classroom activities and learning tasks.
  • Working with individuals or small groups to develop pupils’ confidence, understanding and progress.
  • Providing support with reading, writing and maths.
  • Helping to maintain positive classroom routines and a supportive learning environment.
  • Encouraging pupils to become independent, motivated and confident learners.
  • Getting involved in creative, practical and outdoor learning activities.
  • Working across different classrooms and quickly adapting to new schools, routines and expectations.
  • Developing positive and professional relationships with pupils, teachers and wider school staff.

Support Assistant – Who Would This Suit?

  • A graduate looking to gain valuable experience in a primary school environment.
  • An aspiring teacher keen to experience different schools and year groups.
  • Someone with experience in childcare, nursery, education or youth work.
  • Someone who has gained experience working with children through volunteering, placements or other relevant roles.
  • An experienced Teaching Assistant looking for greater flexibility through supply work.
  • Looking for work that can fit around your existing commitments or lifestyle.
  • Friendly, dependable and confident, with a genuine passion for supporting children and their learning.

Previous experience in a school setting is beneficial, but it isn’t essential.

We’re also keen to hear from candidates who can demonstrate strong transferable skills, the right attitude and a genuine enthusiasm for helping children thrive.

Why Choose Supply?

Flexibility. Variety. Experience. Opportunity.

Supply work gives you the freedom to experience different primary schools, meet new people, build your confidence and develop your classroom skills, all without being committed to one setting.

You’ll gain valuable experience across different year groups and learning environments while having the opportunity to discover what type of school and role suits you best.

And who knows? Your next supply placement could be the start of something longer-term, with many opportunities potentially leading to permanent positions.
