Are you a passionate and dedicated teacher looking to make a real impact in a specialist SEN setting? We are recruiting an SEN Teacher for a specialist school in Wakefield, supporting students aged 11–19 with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Complex Learning Needs, Communication Difficulties, and Additional Educational Needs. About the Role
- Deliver engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to individual learning needs
- Support students with Autism, Complex Needs, and Communication Difficulties
- Create personalised learning experiences linked to EHCP outcomes
- Promote communication, independence, and life skills development
- Support emotional wellbeing and positive engagement in learning
- Adapt teaching strategies to meet a wide range of learning styles and abilities
- Work closely with Teaching Assistants, therapists, pastoral teams, and families
- Create a structured, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment
What You’ll Be Teaching
The school supports students with a range of needs, including:
- Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
- Complex Learning Difficulties
- Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
- Sensory Processing Difficulties
- Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
- Additional medical and developmental needs
Classes are small and highly supported, allowing staff to focus on personalised learning, communication development, and preparing students for adulthood.
What We’re Looking For
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or equivalent
- Experience teaching within SEN, SEND, specialist, or mainstream settings
- Passion for supporting students with Autism and Complex Needs
- Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills
- A patient, flexible, and nurturing approach
- Commitment to inclusive education and student-centred learning
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
