Milk Education is working with a number of welcoming and supportive Primary Schools and specialist settings across Durham, Middlesbrough, Stockton-on-Tees, Billingham and Hartlepool and is looking to recruit passionate, enthusiastic, and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistants to join schools from September 2026.

You’ll play a vital role in supporting pupils with a range of additional needs, helping them access learning, develop their independence and build confidence within a safe, nurturing, and inclusive school environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with SEND.
  • Support pupils to access the curriculum and participate fully in school life.
  • Adapt activities and learning to meet individual needs.
  • Support pupils with communication, social, emotional, and behavioural needs.
  • Work alongside teachers and other support staff to deliver individual support strategies.
  • Implement strategies outlined in EHCPs and individual support plans.
  • Promote positive behaviour, independence, and confidence.
  • Support pupils with personal and emotional development where required.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Maintain high standards of safeguarding and professional practice.

Skills, Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEND is desirable.
  • Experience with Autism, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language difficulties or complex needs is advantageous.
  • A relevant Level 2 or Level 3 qualification is desirable but not essential.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patient, calm, and adaptable approach.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils.
  • Confident working as part of a wider school team.
  • Passion for supporting children to achieve their full potential.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).

This role is paid within the advertised pay scale. Your starting rate will be determined by your qualifications, relevant experience, and the requirements of the assignment.
