We are seeking dedicated and empathetic Cognition and Learning Assistants to join our team across the Northumberland area. This important role focuses on supporting children with SEND and speech and language difficulties, helping them develop essential cognitive, academic, and problem-solving skills within a nurturing classroom environment.

You will work closely with teachers and SEND specialists to tailor learning experiences, ensuring every pupil feels capable, confident, and supported.

Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm, Monday to Friday

What You Need

  • Experience supporting children or young people, ideally within a SEND, SEMH, or classroom setting
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills to engage effectively with pupils, teachers, and parents
  • The ability to provide two recent references (work-based or educational)
  • A patient, proactive, and creative approach to learning support

Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with cognition and learning difficulties, providing tailored interventions and classroom assistance
  • Help adapt teaching materials and resources to suit individual learning styles and abilities
  • Promote independence and confidence by using scaffolding and step-by-step learning techniques
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and SEND staff to track progress and adjust strategies as needed
  • Deliver small group or one-to-one sessions focusing on literacy, numeracy, and memory skills
  • Encourage positive learning behaviours and celebrate achievements, big or small
  • Maintain strong communication with parents and carers regarding pupil development and wellbeing
