We’re currently recruiting for a Graduate Teaching Assistant to join a Secondary School in Newcastle on a long-term, short-term, or temp-to-perm basis, starting in September.

You’ll be joining a supportive and inclusive secondary school that is committed to helping every young person reach their full potential. With a strong focus on wellbeing, mental health, and inclusive education, the school provides an environment where students are encouraged to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

This role is ideal for a Psychology graduate looking to gain meaningful, hands‑on experience before pursuing a career in Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Counselling, Social Work, or another child‑focused profession.

Working alongside experienced teachers, SEND professionals and pastoral staff, you’ll gain valuable insight into child development, behaviour, emotional regulation and additional learning needs while making a genuine difference to the lives of young people.

Your main responsibilities will include:

• Providing one‑to‑one and small group support to students with a range of learning, behavioural, social, emotional and mental health needs.
• Building positive, trusting relationships that promote confidence, resilience and engagement in learning.
• Supporting students with emotional regulation, communication and positive behaviour strategies.
• Assisting teachers in delivering engaging lessons and adapting learning activities to meet individual needs.
• Delivering targeted academic and wellbeing interventions to help students overcome barriers to learning.
• Working closely with teachers, SENDCOs, pastoral teams and external professionals to support students’ progress and wellbeing.
• Monitoring student progress and contributing observations that help inform support strategies and individual learning plans.

Requirements or Skills:

• A degree in Psychology (or due to graduate this year) is highly desirable.
• An interest in pursuing a career in Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Mental Health, Therapy or another child‑focused profession.
• A genuine passion for supporting young people’s learning, wellbeing and personal development.
• Strong communication, organisation and interpersonal skills.
• Good literacy and numeracy skills.
• Experience working with children or young people through volunteering, mentoring, tutoring, coaching, youth work or care settings is desirable but not essential.
• A resilient, empathetic and proactive approach with the ability to build positive relationships.
• Confidence working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary school team.

This role is paid within the advertised pay scale. Your starting rate will be determined by your qualifications, relevant experience, and the requirements of the assignment.
