Milk Education are recruiting for a caring, resilient and enthusiastic SEN Learning Support Assistant to join a supportive and inclusive SEN school in Teesside, catering for pupils aged 2–19. This role is ideal for experienced support staff or individuals looking to build a career within special education. You will be joining a welcoming school community that prioritises inclusion, wellbeing and personalised learning. The school provides a nurturing and structured environment, supporting pupils with a wide range of special educational needs to help them thrive academically, socially and emotionally. Learning Support Assistant Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, adapting support to meet individual learning, communication and emotional needs.
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging, differentiated lessons across a range of ages and abilities.
  • Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation and independence using agreed strategies.
  • Help create a safe, structured and stimulating learning environment.
  • Support pupils with personal care, mobility or sensory needs where required.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents/carers.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and other professionals.

Learning Support Assistant Must-Haves:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN (school-based experience preferred).
  • Experience working with vulnerable adults.
  • A patient, compassionate and resilient approach.
  • Knowledge of SEN such as ASD, ADHD, SEMH, SLD or PMLD (desirable but not essential).
  • Ability to follow behaviour support plans and individual education plans.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children and young people with additional needs.
