Milk Education is offering an excellent opportunity for Psychology graduates in the Middlesbrough area who are looking to begin or develop a career in education and child-focused support roles. You will work in a supportive school environment, helping children with Autism and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This role provides meaningful, hands-on experience for those interested in educational psychology, social work, therapy, or other child-focused professions.

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will support pupils individually and in small groups, helping them engage in learning, build confidence and develop socially and emotionally within a structured and nurturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide personalised support to pupils with Autism, learning difficulties and other SEND
  • Assist with implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour strategies
  • Promote pupils’ emotional, social and academic development through positive reinforcement and engaging activities
  • Collaborate with teachers and other professionals to deliver inclusive teaching approaches
  • Support personal care needs when required (training provided)
  • Observe and record pupil progress, sharing updates with teachers and parents
  • Contribute to a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment
Requirements:
  • A degree in Psychology or a related field
  • Experience working with children or young people with Autism or SEND is desirable but not essential
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with additional learning needs
  • Patience, empathy, and a proactive, non-judgmental approach
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service, or willingness to obtain one
