Milk Education is seeking experienced and dedicated SEMH Specialist Teaching Assistants to work across a range of schools in South Manchester from September. We are looking for professionals with experience supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, particularly those who may require additional support with behaviour, emotional regulation and engagement in education.

This is an excellent opportunity for experienced Teaching Assistants, Behaviour Mentors, Learning Support Assistants, Pastoral Workers and SEND professionals who want to make a meaningful difference to pupils who may find mainstream education challenging. You’ll work closely with teachers and wider school teams to build positive relationships, provide consistent support and help pupils develop the confidence, skills and strategies they need to succeed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with SEMH needs
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation, behaviour and engagement in learning
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and provide consistent boundaries
  • Use appropriate behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques when required
  • Support pupils to develop independence, resilience and positive relationships
  • Work closely with teachers, pastoral teams and wider school staff to provide personalised support

What We’re Looking For:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs
  • Experience as a Teaching Assistant, Behaviour Mentor, Pastoral Worker, Learning Support Assistant or similar
  • Confidence supporting pupils with challenging behaviour and emotional regulation
  • Experience using positive behaviour and de-escalation strategies
  • A calm, patient and resilient approach
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Relevant SEND, education, youth work or behaviour qualifications are desirable but not essential

This role is paid within the advertised pay scale. Your starting rate will be determined by your qualifications, relevant experience and the requirements of the assignment.
