About the Role
Milk Education are working in partnership with a specialist autism provision to recruit an Autism Support Worker. This is a rewarding opportunity to support children and young people with autism in a dedicated setting designed to meet their individual needs. You will play a key role in providing tailored support, helping pupils engage with learning, build confidence, and develop essential life skills within a structured, nurturing, and highly supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with autism
- Support the delivery of personalised learning and behaviour plans
- Encourage positive communication, interaction, and emotional regulation
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff and external professionals
- Create a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment
- Support pupils with personal care needs where required, maintaining dignity and respect at all times (essential)
- Assist with activities such as swimming sessions, including supporting pupils in the pool and during transitions
- Track and report on pupil progress
The Ideal Candidate
- Has experience working with children or young people with autism or additional needs
- Is confident and comfortable supporting with personal care (essential)
- Is happy to participate in swimming sessions and water-based activities
- Demonstrates patience, empathy, and resilience
- Has strong communication and teamwork skills
- Is adaptable and proactive in supporting a range of needs
- Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, or SEND
- Knowledge of strategies such as PECS, Makaton, or sensory approaches
- Previous experience in a specialist or autism provision setting
