Milk Education is working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive mainstream secondary school in Merseyside to recruit a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant to start as soon as possible. This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate graduate, aspiring teacher, or experienced Learning Support Assistant who is keen to support pupils with SEND needs and help them achieve both academically and personally within a mainstream secondary school setting.

The Role as a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant
As a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with pupils across KS3 and KS4 who require additional support due to SEND needs within a mainstream secondary school environment. You will provide tailored classroom support, help students engage with learning, and promote confidence, independence, and positive behaviour throughout the school day.
Key Responsibilities as a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support for pupils with SEND needs across KS3 and KS4
- Support students in accessing learning activities within the classroom
- Adapt learning materials and approaches to meet individual needs
- Build positive relationships to encourage confidence, engagement, and progress
- Support pupils with social, emotional, and behavioural needs where required
- Work closely with teaching staff and the SEND department to implement support strategies
- Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teachers and SENCO staff
- Promote inclusion, independence, and positive behaviour within the school environment
- Assist with classroom management and general learning support when needed
The Ideal Candidate as a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant
- Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND needs is desirable
- A degree in Psychology, Education, Child Development, or a related subject is beneficial but not essential
- Experience working within mainstream secondary schools or educational settings is desirable
- Open to both recent graduates and experienced Learning Support Assistants
- Patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach to supporting young people
- Strong communication and relationship‑building skills
- Passion for education and supporting students with additional needs
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
