Milk Education is working with a range of welcoming and supportive primary schools across Leeds who are looking for a dedicated Speech & Language Support Assistant to join their teams from September 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about communication, language development, and supporting children with additional needs. Whether you have a background in Speech & Language Therapy, Psychology, Education, Childhood Studies, Linguistics, or SEN, this role offers valuable experience in a school environment.

About the Role

  • Provide targeted 1:1 and small group support for pupils with speech, language, and communication needs
  • Support children to develop their speaking, listening, vocabulary, and social communication skills
  • Deliver communication-based activities and interventions under the guidance of teachers and relevant professionals
  • Help pupils build confidence when communicating with adults and peers
  • Support children with additional needs, including ASD, ADHD, SLCN, and SEMH
  • Use games, stories, visual resources, and practical activities to encourage communication
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and Speech & Language professionals
  • Monitor pupil engagement and progress and provide feedback to the wider team
  • Create a patient, encouraging, and inclusive environment where every child feels confident to communicate

About You

  • Experienced working with children or young people in a school, nursery, care, therapy, or similar setting
  • Passionate about communication and child development
  • Patient, empathetic, and encouraging
  • Confident supporting children on a 1:1 and small group basis
  • Able to build strong and trusting relationships with pupils
  • A strong communicator who can work effectively as part of a wider team
  • Interested in developing their knowledge of SEN and communication needs
  • A qualification or degree in Speech & Language Therapy, Linguistics, Psychology, Education, Childhood Studies, or a related subject is desirable but not essential.
