Milk Education is working closely with a supportive primary school in Leeds who are seeking a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their nurturing team. This role is ideal for someone passionate about supporting children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, providing stability, encouragement, and consistent support to help them thrive. You will play a key role in helping pupils build confidence, regulate emotions, develop resilience, and access learning within a safe and structured environment.
Hours: Monday–Friday | 08:30–15:30
Contract: Initially week-by-week, with the potential to move into a long-term role
Your Role & Responsibilities:
- Provide calm, consistent, and patient support for children with SEMH needs
- Build strong, trusting relationships to support emotional wellbeing
- Support pupils with emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies
- Work closely with the class teacher and pastoral team to adapt learning
- Encourage engagement, confidence, and independence
- Create a safe, supportive environment where children feel understood and valued
Essential Requirements:
- Recent experience (within the last 2 years) supporting children or young people with SEMH or additional needs
- Strong understanding of behaviour support and emotional regulation strategies
- Resilient, patient, and able to remain calm under pressure
- Confident supporting 1:1 and small group interventions
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- A genuine passion for helping children succeed and thrive
