About the Role
Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? We’re recruiting SEMH Support Workers for a specialist PRU in Leeds. The unit supports pupils aged 11–16 who may have complex behavioural, emotional, and social challenges. This is a rewarding opportunity for individuals with experience in SEN, youth work, care, psychology, or support services. If you’re committed, patient, and empathetic, you can help these pupils re-engage with learning, develop emotional regulation, and build confidence in a structured and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs
- Assist pupils with emotional regulation, social skills, and behaviour management
- Support teachers in delivering accessible and inclusive learning
- Build trusting relationships with pupils to foster engagement and resilience
- Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and pastoral staff to meet EHCP or behaviour targets
- Support structured routines, positive behaviour interventions, and restorative practices
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, ADHD, or behavioural needs
- Calm, empathetic, and resilient approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Confidence using strategies to de-escalate challenging behaviours
- Commitment to full-time, term-time work
- Backgrounds in youth work, care, psychology, criminology, teaching, or SEN support are highly desirable
