Secondary Schools | Wakefield & South Leeds

Milk Education is working in partnership with a range of welcoming and inclusive secondary schools across Wakefield and South Leeds, including Outwood Academies, Brigshaw High School and Sherburn High School. We are seeking resilient, empathetic and confident Behaviour Support Workers & Cover Supervisors to support students both in and out of the classroom.

This dual role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting young people with behavioural, emotional, or additional needs, while also gaining valuable classroom experience as a Cover Supervisor. Whether you’re considering a future in teaching, pastoral support, psychology, or youth work, this role offers hands-on experience in a school setting.

You’ll work closely with teaching and pastoral teams to help students regulate their behaviour, stay engaged in learning, and develop positive relationships — stepping into the classroom to supervise lessons when required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting students with behavioural, social and emotional needs
  • De-escalating challenging situations and promoting positive behaviour
  • Supervising whole classes during short-term teacher absence using pre-prepared lesson materials
  • Maintaining a safe, calm and productive learning environment
  • Building positive relationships with students aged 11–16
  • Following school behaviour policies and safeguarding procedures
  • Feeding back to teachers, SEND teams or pastoral staff where appropriate

About You

  • Experience working with young people in education, youth work, care, mentoring or support roles
  • Confidence managing behaviour in a secondary school setting
  • A calm, patient and consistent approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A genuine interest in education, pastoral support or SEND
  • The ability to adapt quickly to different schools and situations
