Milk Education is working with a number of welcoming and inclusive specialist schools across Stockton and the surrounding areas and is looking to recruit caring, resilient, and dedicated SEND Learning Support Assistants to join schools from September 2026.
Whether you’re an experienced SEND Learning Support Assistant, a Teaching Assistant with experience supporting children with additional needs, or have a background in care, youth work, or specialist education, we’d love to hear from you.
We have a range of long‑term, full‑time opportunities available, with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.
You’ll play a vital role in supporting children and young people with a range of special educational needs and disabilities, helping to create a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment where every pupil can thrive, develop confidence, and reach their full potential.
Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEND across a range of ages.
- Support pupils with communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation.
- Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging and differentiated learning activities.
- Help maintain a calm, safe, and structured learning environment.
- Follow and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs), behaviour plans, and personalised support strategies.
- Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement, independence, and progress.
- Support pupils with sensory needs and adapt learning approaches to suit individual learning styles.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, parents, carers, and external professionals.
- Promote positive behaviour and support pupils to achieve their personal and educational goals.
Qualifications and Experience
- Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND in a school, care, or similar setting.
- Experience supporting pupils with additional needs such as Autism (ASD), ADHD, speech and language difficulties, or complex learning needs is desirable.
- A patient, calm, resilient, and adaptable approach.
- Good understanding of behaviour management and supportive intervention strategies.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- A genuine passion for supporting children and young people with additional needs.
- Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families.
